ABOUT YOO
We believe that youth deserve second chances. Over the past few years, we have been involved in numerous projects supporting Delaware teenagers serving time in residential care. As a result, we developed "Youth Overcoming Obstacles" in concert with the Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services. We have learned more about the circumstances and challenges facing our peers & we have recognized a need for support in the reentry process. The funds raised will provide money to the students housed in the Residential Cottages through their re-entry program to fill a huge need in allowing them to purchase anything from cleats for sports teams to books and pencils for school to cooking lessons at a culinary school or a football camp. Our hope is to make it possible for each youth to be able to attend a camp or lessons in a tailored area of interest to smooth the transition back to their home schools or into the adult world. These types of programs exist in other states and have been shown to reduce the recidivism rate - which tends to be highest in the first ninety days after discharge. As we understand it, Delaware has not had earmarked money for this type of re-entry (or "second chance") fund - until now.
We know that the little things go a long way for Youth Overcoming Obstacles. We hope that you will join us in this mission to provide a smooth and positive re-entry for juveniles, with a long-term goal of reducing recidivism rates in Delaware. Your donations literally could change a life.
